OOH Clubs (Out-of-Hours)

Filed under: Uncategorized — sports at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

Lots of Out-of-Hours Clubs have been offered this term but with the dark nights and poor weather, the outdoor clubs have been postponed now until after February Half-Term.

After Christmas, there will be a five-week Judo Course starting up for children in Years 5 and 6 initially. We will be having a demonstration on Friday 7th December, so if you are interested, ask your mums and dads nicely if you can take part…

Basketball Club has come to an end for now but it was great to see so many children keen on trying out this new sport so hopefully, we will be able to set up another club after Christmas. I will let you know as soon as I have any more information.

Thanks.

Inter-School Competitions

Filed under: Uncategorized — sports at 6:53 pm on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

Congratulations to Y1 and Y3 who have both represented Green Park this term in Sporting Events.

Y1 went off to Sacred Heart High School in Bootle to take part in a Multi-Skills Competition, where Mr Rafferty informs me a lot of fun was had by all!

More recently, Miss Hartley took her Y3 class to Northway School in Maghull to take part in an Orienteering Competition. Again, the children had a great experience.

Throughout the year there will be competitions for all classes, so hopefully more and more pupils will have the chance to represent Green Park School.

Well done boys and girls and I hope you said a big THANK YOU to Mr Rafferty and Miss Hartley for taking you along.

Thanks.

I am delighted to announce that, for the third time in six years, Green Park have been awarded the prestigious honour of ‘Primary School of the Year’ at the Sefton Sports Achievement Awards’. This award recognises the strong emphasis we place on physical education at Green Park and in particular the amount and range of opportunities we offer our children in out-of-hours clubs. The award also recognised the number of staff, volunteers, coaches, parents and students who support our out-of-hours programme which enables us to provide such wonderful opportunities for all of our children.

On Friday 22nd June Green Park Athletics Team entered the Sefton Mini-Games Athletics Tournament at Litherland Sports Park.

A team of 12 children took part in a full days worth of running, jumping and throwing events, including heats and finals in a lot of cases.

All of the children tried their best and performed really well for the team. At the end of the afternoon, it was rewarding to find out we had finished 6th out of 17 schools. Wow!
Well done to the whole team who were..

Boys = John, Oliver, David, Tom P, Michael H and Jack from Y6.
Girls = Lauren, Emma, Anna, from Y6 and Beth, Sian and Melissa from Y5.

As well as the fantastic team achievement, there were some fine individual performances which I should highlight…

John Cain - Sefton’s 100m Champion
David Lewis - Sefton’s Vertical Jump Champion
Girls’ Relay Team (Emma, Lauren, Sian and Beth)- Sefton’s 100m Relay Champions
Beth Ryan - Runner Up in 75m Final
Anna Forde - Runner Up in 600m Final

Well done to everybody who took part. It was a fantastic day and a real achievement to get into the team as lots of children tried out and it was a very difficult job to choose the squad.
Thanks very much to parents for assisting with transport and supporting during the day.

Sefton Girls’ Mini-Soccer Tournament 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — sports at 11:13 am on Thursday, June 28, 2007

On Friday 22nd June the Y5 and Y6 girls football team went to play in the Sefton Min-Soccer Girls’ Football Tournament at Thornton. There was 22 teams including Green Park Girls. Our team was Penny Anastasiou, Melissa Perrin, Brooke Whittle, Anneli Reed, Megan Calleja, Emma Reston, Erin Devlin, Lauren Grosz, Alice Hazard and Miss Blackham. We won our first 4 games, scoring four goals in each game which got us in to the Quarter Finals. We were then put forward into a group of 3 so had 2 more matches to play. We won our first one 4-2 but then we lost the match before the semis. We were all upset but then we found out we had got through to the Semi Finals and we were all really happy. But then we lost the in the Semi-Final, so we didn’t get to the finals and we were really upset. We all really enjoyed playing the matches though.
