GIRLS’ FOOTBALL

On Wednesday the 17th of January the girls from Y5 and 6 represented Green Park played in the Maghull and District Cup Competition at Everton Academy, Netherton.

There were four teams in our league. We played 5 matches in total and won 2 which meant we came 6th out of 8 teams overall.

Our captain was Lauren Grosz and the others players were Melissa Perrin, Brooke Whittle , Penny Anastasiou , Anneli Reed , Erin Devlin , Alice Hazard , Emma Reston, and Anna Forde. Megan Calleja could not play unfortunately, due to a recent injury, but she came along supporting us. Megan helped us by holding our spare balls!

The second match we won 1-o. Anna Forde scored our winning goal and Melissa scored our other winning goal in the fourth match.

THANK YOU to everyone that came supporting us from the girls in Y5 and Y6.

Comments from the team:

Anneli Reed

First of allI was a sub because the day before I was not well. I played left defence. Even though I had not been very well I thought I ran my legs off.  Now my throat is sore. Penny was an excellent goal keeper. All of us are stars. It was a cold day and to make it worse I had to play against my friend Sarah Gill.

Penny Anastasiou  (Goal Keeper)

I was very nervous and scared when I got on the pitch. I could not belive that Jack that works at the chippy was one of the referees. The next day I had a very bad cold because  when I was in  goal It was so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Anna Forde

The weather was cold and the wind and the ball rolled away lots but we all played together very well.

Megan Calleja

At the footy match all the girl were FAB.I really enjoyed going,it was freezing but they all played good.

Melissa Perrin

I really enjoyed the football match. It was freezing but Mr Hewer was all right, he had all the girls coats wrapped around his head! All the girls did great.

Miss Blackham

The girls played really well in particularly difficult weather conditions. Considering we haven’t trained over the winter period, they played really well together as a team. I look forward to training again after the half term break because I think this team still have a lot more to offer. Well done girls, and as usual, many thanks to our army of supporters. It is much appreciated.

Green Park v Melling - Match Report by Lauren Grosz (Captain)

On Friday 3rd November 2006, Green Park played against Melling Primary School. We travelled to Melling nervously but excited. In the first half we played really well. Green Park got the kick off. In the first minute or so we got a goal from Erin Devlin who came out of nowhere and got help by her team mates and supporters cheering, shot it in the goal and scored the first goal for Green Park.

When the whistle had blown for half time we were all really excited. Unfortunately, Brooke Whittle had to go home because it was her birthday and had played really well. Miss Blackham had a talk to us and she told us to ”keep trying and don’t give up”.

In the second half it was a very exciting game. Emma Reston defended well and Penny Anastasiou wouldn’t let any goals in. Also Lauren Grosz and Megan Calleja helped out but they were midfielders sometimes too. Soon we had Melissa Perrin score and later on another goal by Anneli Reed!

We had Alice Hazard, Lauren Grosz and Emma Reston helping to provide the goals. It was now 3-0 and we still weren’t tired!

Melissa Perrin played really well because defenders and nearly all the team were there but she took her time, lifted up her foot and scored right in the goal. This was now Melissa’s second goal and thanks to Anneli Reed for helping her with a great throw in!

Later on, Lauren Grosz by accident gave away a penalty. The person who took the penalty kick scored making it 4-1. It was now Green Parks’ kick off, just a second later Megan Calleja came running in with the ball, had loads of space, flipped it over the goalkeeper and scored the last and final goal.

One minute later the whistle blew. Green Park had won 5-1. We were all really happy and shook the other team’s hand and gave thema big, loud cheer.

Thanks Miss Blackham and Mrs Lawrenson for helping us with our skills and all the supporters for cheering for us!

Green Park Sports Day goes ahead but Wimbledon gets rained off!

Filed under: Uncategorized — sports at 3:12 pm on Monday, June 26, 2006

Even though the sky was a little grey the the Green Park Sports Day went ahead with great excitement and activity.

Defending champions, the Green team, were confident of success and with their team dressed in their best greenery they set off in each event looking for a big points total. However they did not count on the enthusiasm and adventure of the Yellow team who, with a new found sense of determination, challenged the struggling champions in every race!

The famous and fantastic Yellow team get ready for the challenge ahead.

The Yellow team were great with fantastic individual and team performances and everyone said how great they were with the vocal support and encouragement for everybody in the team.

The Yellow team roar on their encouragement!

The Red team can only watch and wish as the Yellow team power on!

As each event brought the final points calculation closer the Green team edged into a unassailable lead and ended the day as the Champions, but the biggest cheer of the day went to the fantastic Yellow team! Congratulations to everyone.

When all the events had finished it was left to mums, dads and toddlers to show how running should be done!
